About WIRE, & how a dispatch gets filed
The WIRE in one paragraph
WIRE is a free, hand-kept dispatch index of the open web. We file 797 sites across 22 desks, datelined by the minute, ordered the way a wire-service feed is ordered — newest on top. Every entry was filed by a human and cleared by an editor before it went out. No scrapers, no rankings, no fee.
Editorial & filing policy
A dispatch is accepted when it is on-beat for its desk, points to a real working URL, and carries a one-sentence wireline that a reader can act on. If a submitter leaves the wireline blank, WIRE fetches the site's own meta description so the line reads in the publisher's voice rather than ours. Duplicate domains are rejected by the database — we keep one dispatch per site.
What the WIRE is not
WIRE is not a ranking, a leaderboard, or a 'best of' list. A listing here is a pointer, not an endorsement. The feed grows the way a morgue file grows: slowly, one careful entry at a time.
File a dispatch
If you operate a site that belongs on one of the desks, file from /add.php. It is free, it takes a minute, and the wireline gets fetched for you. Pick the right desk, keep the URL canonical, and your filing slips onto the feed the same day.
